On behalf of the people of St. Barnabas' Parish,
New Providence in the sunny Isles of The Bahamas, we would
like to welcome you to our new website. As some of our parishioners
would tell you, the aim of our parish has been to "Exalt
the Divine, since 1929." We hope that you will enjoy your
cyber visit with us, and if you ever happen to be in Nassau
during your holidays, we will be more that happy to have you
come and visit with us.
St. Barnabas' Parish is located in the heart
of what is now known as the "over-the-hill" community.
Surrounded by small businesses in a residential area, the faithful
of this parish are constantly looking for new ventures in mission
and evangelism. The strong social outreach programmes cater
to the under-privileged young persons of the area, particularly
in the area of education. For the past 70 years we have been
a community of faith bringing the gospel to bear upon our social
context.
Like the good scribe of Matthew 13:52, St.
Barnabas' Parish is a blend of things old and things new. Families
from all over The Bahamas have contributed to the development
of this parish. The strong youth ministry has produced many
leaders and pioneers in our Bahamian nation as well as the
church. Yet it has been, and continues to be, the "Hand
of the Lord" and His favour that has brought us to where
we are in this earthly pilgrimage.
Enjoy your visit. Please fell free to borrow
any ideas for the advancement of Christ and His agenda in your
local context. We want to exalt Him and not ourselves, who
are simply His unworthy servants.
The Rev'd Canon Basil L. Tynes
Rector
